Instagram Peek

I spent my evening doing various projects and allowed myself to catch up on Game of Thrones with the hub before bed instead of writing a lengthy blog post on the kitchen progress.  How dare I! But I had to share something…

Even though part of my evening involved taking down the plaster ceiling in the kitchen, I had to dedicate some time to the rest of my house. Sad to say but our yard was looking more like a jungle than a yard; so I spent a good few hours mowing the lawn, cleaning up after the dogs and trimming up the trees and vines. But to focus back on the kitchen, I thought I’d share a few instagram’d shots of our kitchen progress to tie you all over till tomorrows post.  Lengthier explanations to come!

The Start Of ‘THE TRAUB KITCHEN PROJECT’

I started this blog a while ago to allow me to keep a kind of journal if you will about the changes in my home. Well, needless to say I’ve been slacking. The good news? I have been taking pictures along the way at least! So as we’re knee deep in our kitchen reno  (literally – SO MUCH PLASTER!) I’m taking a look back at the stages my kitchen has been in up till today.

Looking back 2 years….Here are some photos of when we first moved in,  – from blank slate to “making it work”

Don’t be jealous of my drop ceiling/linoleum floor/hidden fridge/dirty makeshift cabinets!! Man, I remember the day we bought the house I SCRUBBED and SCRUBBED that kitchen, I had black suds rolling down my arms. It was disgusting.  Ugh! EWW! Ok, yes – gross, shake it off.

But as our tax credit from the government for buying during the incentive went towards a new bathroom (trust me, it needed it – need a reminder? check out the post here) We knew we had to wait to save some funds to do the kitchen precisely how we wanted to. Which for an interior designer was a blessing and a curse. 1. I had to live with gross kitchen for far too long, and for a couple who loves to cook together – no bueno. 2. This gave me 2 years to plan and dream about it!  … I’ll be sharing my floor plan with you in later posts, but know that turning this tiny and awkward kitchen wasn’t designed over night.

Anyway, here’s some Moved In photos:

The Changing Of Colors Continued…

Remember that Benjamin Moore Gray Horse color that was painted on my Living Room wall for maybe a day or two? Yea, it was too blue, and I thus went on my Gray paint extravaganza (spoiler alert: yes, that gray has since changed…haha seriously someone get me some ‘I paint my house too much’ help). If you missed my Gray Issues post, see it HERE.

Well since I had purchased a gallon, I found a home for the Gray Horse… behold, the powder room that we get a lot of compliments on, but hadn’t done a single thing to since we moved into the house…

Nothing horrible, but the green wasn’t my favorite. Nor was the lighting and lace. So, enter Gray Horse stage left….

Picked up these two light fixtures at Ikea and gosh they make a world of a difference. Also picked up the frame and art insert seen above.

Even though the lace is gone, I still need to replace the window treatment. Roll down shades just don’t do it for me. Oh, and the door knob. Honestly, I kinda like that it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, however it isn’t working functionally and we actually had people get stuck in our powder room! Quite embarrassing (and yet hilarious) when you’re throwing a 50th birthday party for your parents. Too many phone calls from the bathroom being made in our house. Not good. See all the details of the party HERE.

Powder Room To-Do List:

  • Replace window treatment – maybe nix a treatment and stencil frost the window instead?
  • Replace or spray paint the towel bar
  • Replace the light switch cover plate
  • Replace the door knob (spoiler – this has been done! – update soon!)
  • Paint the ceiling white ??
  • Paint the sink base and mirror (gray? white?)
  • Update the toilet with a white low-flow, ‘green’ one
  • Sand down the door so it closes easier
  • Paint trim & door
  • Tile floor with a nice dark slate tile

As you can see from my list there’s a lot of ‘Replace’ and replace takes money, which in my case means this isn’t happening overnight. Still debating on if I should paint the ceiling white and/or the sink base and mirror. Any thoughts?
